The National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers (NAIFA) is an association of professional real estate appraisers committed to the support of its members, for a service of trust and integrity that benefits the members, the profession, and the general public.

The Association’s objectives are to raise the standards of the appraisal profession, to exchange experiences and ideas to the betterment of the profession and the public, to maintain and encourage a code of ethics of the highest standards for members, to gain recognition for its members as qualified professionals, to encourage educational pursuits for members in attaining a high standard of proficiency in their chosen specialty, and to promote fellowship among appraisers.

NAIFA chapters offer expanded networking opportunities through local educational programs, meetings, and social gatherings. Many members cite chapter involvement as their most valuable membership benefit.

Educational programs offered by NAIFA chapters are a convenient way to earn continuing education credits from the finest and most knowledgeable instructors in the profession. Chapters also provide excellent opportunities to expand your skills and gain valuable leadership experience. Volunteering on a chapter board or committee will help position you for your next career move and increase your value to clients by developing your management skills.

NAIFA has structured a professional designation program that will provide assurance to clients that they are engaging a qualified, experienced, competent appraiser, an appraiser having up-to-date education and knowledge of the profession’s standards. Four designations are currently available:

  • IFA – Residential Appraiser Specialist
  • IFAA – Agricultural Appraiser Specialist
  • IFAS – Senior Appraiser Specialist for Non-Residential and Income Properties
  • IFAC – Appraiser Counselor who has been an IFAS for at least 3 years
